Best Bikepacking Backpacks of 2025
Sometimes you just need a little extra storage and that's where a backpack comes in handy

We all know that riding without anything on our backs is the most comfortable. However, it isn't always practical, or even possible, to get everything you need on the bike. Typically a smaller pack is all that's needed for your hydration and nutrition needs. Perhaps even tossing in some extra layers, tools, or spare parts. When it comes down to it for any longer trip you're probably going to want to find a backpack pack for your bikepacking trips. We've taken the pain out of choosing by giving you our top picks for the best Bikepacking backpacks of 2025.

Black Diamond Distance 15

Everything you need and nothing you don't

If we had to pick one backpack for bikepacking that we think accomplishes everything, it would be the Blackdiamond Distance 15. It has a truly simple design with minimal organization that helps to keep the weight down. It can accommodate a bladder up to 3L large, has two zippered pockets in the front, and additional pockets for snacks, phone, or anything else. The pack has a few adjustment options to help keep it close to the body.

It also has two side pockets which generally are used for trekking poles or an ice axe but would be a great spot for tent poles. The main body of the pack is quite water and abrasion resistant as well.

Ultraspire Zygos 6.0 Vest

Ultraspire has long been known in the running community for their excellent running vests. The Zygos 6.0 is their flagship vest model that is built for ultra marathons but it translates well into the world of bikepacking. This vest comes with one of the best sternum strap setups we have ever seen. The vest secures with a 4-way adjustable elastic toggle that lets you dial it in to fit your body. The elastic is quite stretchy and won't restrict breathing.

On the rear of the vest is a separate compartment for your bladder and you can fit up to 2L back there. The front side of the vest has an almost dizzying amount of pockets and will fit a full days worth of gels, electrolytes, and all sorts of other goodies.

Osprey Escapist 6L

Osprey has been branching out into the world of bikepacking. Their Escapist line aims to fill gaps in their product offerings and actually offers good value for bikepacking bags. The Osprey Escapist 6 is a more minimal offering from the backpack giant. It's meant to carry your water and includes a 1.5L bladder. It has some very nice touches including magnetic latches to easily access your water and the inside of the pack has a hook for your pump.

It's Osprey so you know the pack is going to be comfortable and well thought out. They also have one of the absolute best warranties in the whole outdoor industry.

USWE MTB Hydro 9L Hydration Pack

USWE has been making a name for themselves in the last several years thanks to extremely comfortable packs with well thought out designs. This is their midsize pack that comes with a 3L water bladder. The key feature of this pack is their unique No Dancing Monkey harness. It's renowned for comfort and stability and is truly a stand out when compared with other harness systems.

There are plenty of pockets and segregated areas for food and tools. The 9 liter capacity might just be the sweet spot that allows you to pack the extras you need and leave what you don't behind.

Ultimate Direction Ultra Vest 12

Ultimate Direction is another brand that comes from the trail running world. This 12L race vest is extremely lightweight and features one large rear pocket and several in the front. When all you need is to carry some extra water this vest is a great option.

Ultimate Direction has long been known for quality running vests and this one is no exception. You'll find this vest to be light, airy, and plenty supportive to hold your cache all day long.

Patagonia Dirtroamer 20L Backpack

This is the largest pack on our list. If you need to carry a larger amount of kit or light but bulky items, this is a great choice. It pulls double duty as an every day mountain biking pack. For those with full suspension rigs you are no doubt aware that you've got very little room to pack gear on your bike.

Camelbak Chase Vest

The most minimal pack option on our list provides 2.5L of cargo capacity and has a 1.5L bladder. If you're looking for an option that is as light as possible but still allows for extra water and snacks this is it. We love to use this pack on long days without chance of resupply. The 1.5L bladder is great to load up your electrolytes for the day. The rear zippered pocket is great to toss in your keys, wallet, and multi tool.
